Astrology sorts people into 12 zodiac signs based on their birthday. Astrologers say the Sun moves through all 12 signs once a year, staying about a month in each. Your sign is the one the Sun was in on the day you were born. That is why it is also called your sun sign.

To find yours, look for the date range that holds your birthday. Someone born on July 30 falls between July 23 and August 22, so they are a Leo. If you were born on the first or last day of a sign, check the sign next to it too. The change-over date can shift by a day from year to year.

Each sign also belongs to one of four elements. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are bold and quick to act. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) are practical and patient. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) love ideas and talking things through. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) feel things deeply and notice other people's moods.
